I am so lucky to live in a town that truly appreciates art and creation, and inspires young, talented minds to pursue their passions. For the past couple years, the growing city of Birmingham has had its own fashion week. Here, local brands and designers, as well as some designers from around the country, share their creations, designs, and creative imaginations through the weekend-long fashion show. They also have competitions for local designers, and I was able to compete in the Rising Design Star competition. Designed for High Schoolers, this competition is based off of certain themes, and the contestant is required to design and create a look made from materials not typically used for clothing. This years theme was the "Future of Fashion," and I was so lucky to have the chance to compete and create my first piece of clothing, despite the different materials. This competition inspired me to get more involved with fashion design and opened my mind into the exciting possibilities of the fashion world. Birmingham Fashion Week is such an amazing element of Birmingham, revealing the many talented and creative minds this wonderful city.
